Chapter 2 Professor Alder

In the corridor of the college.

Locke was thinking about a way to break the situation. At this time, Alder Franklin, the college’s history teacher, suddenly came to the corridor.

Old Franklin was about sixty years old, with one eye. He wore a black eyepatch on his left eye and gold-rimmed glasses on his right eye.

This old man was accompanied by a student.

Locke could tell at a glance that this student was also from the Kingdom of Anjou, and was the youngest daughter of Viscount Mellinken from the southern region of the Kingdom of Anjou, Angel Mellinken.

Before, I was in the same circle as my predecessor, the original owner.

At this time, Angel was chatting and laughing next to the old man, while Professor Alder was talking to her with a smile.

"Angel, I know you can't pay the tuition for this semester of school. I can't exempt you from the tuition. But I can provide you with an opportunity to make money. After the last class every morning, you can come to my office and copy for me. To write a historical text, just copy it for an hour at noon every day.”

Professor Alder said with a kind smile: “The reward is ten gold coins each time.”

A look of emotion appeared on Angel’s face.

Earning ten gold coins every day, such a small amount of money is certainly not enough to pay for one semester's tuition at Aurelian College.

But since her family cut off the financial support to her, it has been a problem for her to maintain her previous life, and all her former friends have turned against her.

Hence, she is indeed short of money now.

Angel said: "Professor, I am willing, thank you for giving me this opportunity."

"You are such a good person."

"I never realized that you are so kind."

Professor Alder had a smile on his face. He looked up and saw Locke Augustine. He suddenly showed an unexpected expression and his eyes flickered.

“Strange, it’s been more than a week.”

   “Could it be that...”

The smile on Professor Alder's face grew wider, and he said to Locke: "Locke, you haven't come to my office for three days. Have you encountered any difficulties?"

"I still welcome you to copy historical documents for me for one hour every day. The work you did before was very good."

"You are the most outstanding student I have ever seen."

Locke frowned, and at the same time his alarm bells rang in his heart.

Because he knew very well that the reason why he traveled through time was because the original owner copied documents for the old man. As a result, he died within a week, and then his soul traveled over.

But the key point is that no matter how Locke looked through the memory of the original owner, he still couldn't understand how he could die just by copying the history book for the old man.

But in the days before the death of the original owner, he became weaker, weaker, and less energetic every day than the previous day.

Until the last day, he was copying history books in Professor Alder's office. He was in a daze. After returning to his dormitory room, he suddenly died and he traveled through time.

Locke still doesn’t understand why it is so dangerous to copy historical documents for this old man, so he will never work for Professor Alder again.

 This is too dangerous.

Locke had a smile on his face, trying to make his answer look normal. "Professor Alder, thank you for your compliments."

"It's just that I want to find other part-time jobs recently..."

Professor Alder waved his hand and said nonchalantly: "Then you can continue working for me until you find him."

"It's best to start at noon today."

"I'll wait for you in my office. I'm very satisfied with the work you've done."

Locke was shocked. Sure enough, the old man refused to let him go.

The other party found someone from the Kingdom of Anjou to work for him, so he must have been specially selected.

Locke quickly refused: "Professor Alder, I thank you again for your high opinion of me. But I have not been feeling well recently."

Professor Alder smiled and said: "Being unwell does not affect your work. Young people always have to go through ups and downs. I know you have been in a bad mood recently, and I understand all this, but because of this, you should work harder."

"You see, Angel will also go to my office to copy historical documents at noon today."

Angel thanked Professor Alder: "Thank you, Professor."

"I didn't expect that when I was in such a difficult time, it was the teacher of the college who helped me."

At the same time, Angel looked at Locke with confusion and suspicion.

She didn't understand why Locke refused Professor Alder's kindness.

Obviously they have lost the support of their families, and now even their living expenses are almost gone. The daily expenses in the college are so high. If they don't accept the professor's kindness, do they have a better choice?

  Professor Alder nodded with satisfaction.

Locke glanced at Angel, this silly girl, and then continued to refuse, "Sorry, Professor."

"I really can't leave for the time being."

The smile on Professor Alder's face has disappeared, showing obvious dissatisfaction. With a full expression, he stared at Locke coldly, "Well Locke, history class is a compulsory course in the college. In addition to tuition, you'd better pay off the history class fee for this semester as soon as possible."

"Otherwise, you don't have to come to class."

History, language, and swordsmanship, these three courses are the three required courses at Aurelian College. If you don't pay off the fees for these three courses, you will be kicked out of the college.

Professor Alder took a few steps, thought for a moment and said, "Of course, if you continue to work for me, you can wait another month to pay off the fees for my course."

"If you have figured it out, Locke, you can come to my office and find me."

"I still think the work you did is pretty good."

Professor Alder deliberately looked angry, turned around, waved his hand, and walked away angrily.

Angel hurriedly followed, walked a few steps, and seemed to have thought of something. He turned around, ran to Locke and couldn't help complaining and scolding: "Locke, what's the matter with you!" We Angevin people have such an opportunity, you are really ungrateful."

"You'd better apologize to the professor quickly. It's no better than before. You are not the son of the previous count, and I am not the daughter of a viscount."

After Angel said this, he hurried after Professor Alder.

Locke looked at her and shrugged his shoulders.

Angier was originally an academy student in her own circle. Because she was only the daughter of a viscount, she usually surrounded her... original owner all day long. But now, after the fall of the Anjou Kingdom, she naturally no longer needs to flatter herself.

However, I originally wanted to remind her in a tactful and kind way out of humanitarianism, but now it seems that there is no need for it.

 Character determines destiny.

If I were reminded of the other party's attitude, it would be easy for her to turn it around and sell it to Professor Alder.

Locke began to think. "History class is held twice a week, and the next class will be about three days later."

"If I can't think of a way, I will probably be kicked out of the college next time I take the history class, or I will be forced to agree to continue copying history textbooks for Professor Alder."

"I want to figure out a way to break the situation as soon as possible. Or, think about what I should do after leaving the academy. I can't go back to the Kingdom of Anjou, it's too dangerous there."

"Do you want to be a wandering noble?"

Lock glanced at the synthetic Rubik's Cube in front of him, which showed that there were still forty-five minutes until the synthesis was completed.

"The language class is about to start, let me go to the language class first."

"The most important courses at Aurelian College should be the three required courses, but there are also levels among the three required courses."

"The most important thing should be the language class."

"Then there is the history class, and then the swordsmanship class."

Locke recalled that if it were in other colleges or other places, the status of grammar teachers must be relatively low.

After all, this era is similar to the Middle Ages.

In the knight class, force is obviously much more important than culture, so swordsmanship lessons should be more important than history lessons and language lessons.

But at Aurelian College, this was not the case at all.

In this college, the language teacher is not only the dean of the college, but also has a very high status, and he is responsible for every word. Sometimes, he will take up other courses.

Hence, if the number of outstanding graduates in the college is related to any course, then according to logic, there should be some connection with the language course.

That may be the direction in which you can break the situation.
