Chapter 648: Knight’s Letter Home

Chapter 648 Knight's Letter from Home

"Lord Phoenix? Isn't he fighting in the south?"

While looking at the team not far away from the wall of the military castle, Ian's eyes fell on the leader of the team. The familiar figure made Ian mutter under his breath.

After seeing clearly the fleur-de-lis heraldic flag held by a group of people, the commander of the military fort who ordered the soldiers to stand ready on the fort wall breathed a sigh of relief.

Ian quickly walked down the fort wall and came to the free market at the south gate. At this time, the team had already appeared less than a hundred steps away from the fort gate.

"It is indeed Mr. Phoenix!" Ian was slightly excited and walked towards Phoenix, "Sir Phoenix!"

“Ian! Aren’t you supposed to be in Rock Castle? Why are you here?” Phoenix was a little curious about Ian’s appearance.

Although the two belong to the Military Affairs Office and the Government Affairs Office respectively, and Ian's position is not high, it stands to reason that there should not be any intersection between them. But since Ian was transferred to the Lombardy Occupied Area by the government, he gradually became familiar with it due to some material allocation issues.

Phoenix glanced at the dozen soldiers standing on the fort wall and the stones piled on the wall stacks, and sneered: "If I wanted to capture this military fort, I would not run to the fort gate to call for formation in broad daylight."

At this time, the commander in charge of garrisoning the castle ran over quickly.

"Lord Phoenix!" The commander looked excited.

“Who are you?” Phoenix was somewhat familiar with the appearance of the guy in front of him, but he didn’t know his name.

"Reporting to you, Your Majesty, I was originally the flag captain of the third flag team of the second company of the first division. Because some soldiers responsible for maintaining security in the occupied area surrendered for Lombardy, I was sent by the legion to be the commander of these guys." The commander of the military fort said.

"Well, why do you look so familiar? You are the flag captain of the Weitz brothers." Phoenix suddenly realized.

  The commander chuckled.

"But your response to the enemy is too slow. When I appear in front of the hill not far away, the sentries in your military fort should come back and report."

“This~” The commander lowered his head in shame. "Reporting to Commander Phoenix, there is currently a shortage of war horses, and most of our sentinels are equipped with sudden horses. The beast has good endurance, and its speed is just————." The demand for horses is also increasing, which means that an average of only two or three mules and horses are available for a military fort. Therefore, the people we send out are relatively scattered-"

"So that's the case, I can't blame you." Phoenix expressed understanding.

"Phoenix, we cannot stay here too long, let them open the city gate and let us pass." At this time, Lord Galvin, who was riding a horse not far away, shouted to Phoenix.

 "Yes, father." Phoenix glanced back.

"By the way, we're in a hurry, ask your people to open the city gate and let us pass."

"Sir Phoenix, it's getting late, why don't you sing at the castle all night before rushing on?" Ian stepped forward to persuade.

"Ian, thank you for your kindness. But I have something important to do and I can't stay longer. I must get to Rock Castle tonight." Phoenix glanced at the sunset behind him, which was about to set. It was less than two hours before dark. If we don't delay on the way, we should be able to reach Rock Castle soon.

"By the way, my lord mentioned you last time at the military meeting of the Welsh Army, and greatly appreciated your achievements during your tenure as the political officer in the occupied zone. Now, all the senior officers in the army have heard of your political officer's name." Phoenix praised the young and promising political officer in front of him without hesitation.

"This~" Phoenix's series of compliments made Ian a little confused. "This is just my duty as a political officer, and it is not worthy of such a boast."

"Your Majesty's vision is not wrong! Okay, it's time for us to set off." Phoenix patted Ian's shoulder a few times.

  "Let's go!"

Then, the team that stopped briefly outside the fort gate passed through the fort gate one by one and continued walking towards the north.

Looking at the team that was gradually going away, Ian was still thinking about Phoenix's last words in his mind,

"Yes, Lord Earl's vision is not wrong!"

"Yes, my vision was indeed good at the beginning. But what's the use, it's not like he can't keep him——"

In the bedroom of the Earl of Wellsburg's inner castle, Lottie was sewing the mink gloves in her hands with needle and thread, while chatting with the maid Ollie who was also doing needlework.

The sky had just darkened, and it was rare to have some free time today. Lottie took out the pair of mink gloves that had been thrown in the cupboard for about half a month, and started sewing in the courtyard with Ollie. Without saying a few words, Lottie, the hostess of Wellsburg, began to complain about her husband, Art, Earl of Wells.

Oli, who was sitting aside sewing a round leather hat, glanced at Lottie's sad expression and smiled slightly.

"Madam, if you say so, my taste should not be bad~"

"Hahaha..." Ollie said and the two looked at each other and smiled.

The valley in late autumn is already a little cold in the morning and evening. The fireplace placed on the right side of the entrance has already been added with a large amount of birch wood by the servants, and the oil in the bark crackles under the burning of the fire. The heat penetrates the fireplace, making the whole house cozy and warm, and the room is no longer filled with moisture like in the summer.

There is a huge wooden bed placed on the side next to the window, which was specially built for Mr. and Mrs. Art by the old carpenter Bud. The bed frame is polished smooth and carved with exquisite textures, and the surface is brushed with a layer of grease to prevent corrosion. The backrest at the head of the bed is made into a hollow shape, and two closely connected flowers symbolizing love are carved in the middle. The large bed was cushioned with soft velvet, and a pair of finely crafted embroidered pillows were specially made for the couple by Lottie's mother, Mrs. Galvin.

The pair of mink gloves in Lottie's hands were naturally sewn for Ye Te, but the fur of the gloves was sent by Christopher who was in the lake land. It was brought back from the mountains by the hunters of his tribe not long ago.

Perhaps he felt sorry for abandoning the Wells family many years ago, so the old man sent people to deliver things to Wellsburg every once in a while. Either a prey in the mountains or a treasure in the lake. The mink fur that was delivered to the castle last time was bright and soft, and it was just the right size to sew a pair of good gloves. However, since Lottie has been busy with various matters in recent days, she rarely has time to spare, so she only sewed a small part of the mink gloves intermittently. I finally had some free time today, so I asked Ollie to do some needlework together.

After a burst of laughter, Lottie stopped her sewing, sighed softly, and looked quietly at the orange flame in the fireplace. The reflection of the flame danced in her soft eyes, and the sorrow of parting filled her heart.

Oli on the side saw that his wife was silent, so she also put down the leather hat in her hand, slowly came to Lottie, and sat next to her on the bed.

"Madam, don't worry too much about the master's safety. Ron gave me a letter, saying that they have driven the Lombards further south." Ollie whispered in Lottie's ear, as if it was a big secret.

"Did Ron write to you?" Lottie turned to look at Ollie, thinking she had heard wrongly.

"Yes, ma'am. But he asked an officer who escorted the wounded soldiers back to the valley to bring it to me. I only received the letter this morning."

"You have better vision than me!"

This was the first time Lottie heard news about Ater since he went south. When she learned that her husband was safe, the stone in her heart felt relieved. This sudden news quickly dissipated most of the resentment hidden in Lottie's heart.

So, Lottie couldn't wait to hold Ollie's hand and asked: "Did Ron say when they will come back?"

"Not really, but he mentioned in the letter that Master Galvin and Master Phoenix may return to the valley in the next few days."

“Father and Phoenix are coming back?” Lottie asked.
Master Nix and the others will be back soon, and she will be extremely happy if she knows the news."

After speaking, Ollie sat back on the bench, picked up the needle and thread and continued to pull it through the leather hat, blowing off the fluff stuck to her hands from time to time.

Looking at Ollie's happy face, Lottie felt happy for her from the bottom of her heart.

But when she thought that her husband had not written a letter to her for so long, she couldn't help but cursed, "Smelly man!"

  A sneeze!

  "Master, what's wrong with you?"

  Ah~ah~ah sneeze!

· Several consecutive sneezes made Art’s head buzz and tears flowed from the corners of his eyes.

"MD! Which bastard is scolding me?" Art wiped his nose and cursed loudly.

Hunter then took out a handkerchief and covered his mouth and nose. His nostrils moved slightly, and a strong airflow blew out the mucus in his nasal cavity. Holding the sticky liquid in his hand, Art glanced at it, snarled, and threw the handkerchief into the bushes on the roadside with a look of disgust.

"Master, are you okay?" Ron glanced at the handkerchief hanging on the branch of the bush, wiped his face and asked with concern.

“I’m fine, I might have caught a cold from the cold wind at night.” Art wrapped his burqa tightly around his body and sniffed twice. "I really didn't expect the nights in southern Lombardy to be so cold. Everyone, hurry up and spend the night in the market town ahead tonight."

ced ground The officer guarding this place asked him to come to our residence. "

"Yes, sir."

After a while, the two guards left the team and rode towards the south quickly.
